Why Memory card
and Pen Drives are cheaper online?
You visit a brick and Mortar store and you find the rates of
Memory cards and Pen Drives generally higher. You might be wondering why the
price difference is? Why not buy it
online rather than paying a higher price for the same product?
Here is some answer to your queries which might help in analyzing
the situation and help you understand the scenario.
Memory card are divided into class and hence the rates depends
on the ‘class category’.
The current SDHC
specification defines Class 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 as follows:
A Class 2 Memory card
provides a minimum speed of 2 MB/s . Similarly a Class 4 memory Card provides a
minimum speed of 4 MB/S. A Class 6 Memory Card Provides a minimum speed of 6
MB/S. A Class * Memory card Provides a minimum speed of 8 MB/s, and finally a
Class 10 memory card provides minimum speed of 10 MB/S.
In 2009 UHS Speed class
was launched by the SD Card Association which uses a new data bus and will function
only in UHS Host Devices. So using it in a standard Host device will use the Standard
speed class instead of UHS Speed class.
UHS Speed classes are normally used for professionals for capturing high
Definition photography and videos.
UHS Speed class and
divided into two categories:
UHS Class 1 which
provides a minimum speed of 10 MB/S and UHS Class 3 which provides a minimum
speed of 30 MB/s.
The Minimum speed decides the transfer rates and writing
rates of your product and hence the Class of the memory card or Pen drive
decides the price Factor of the product. So just because you find the price
online cheaper doesn’t mean you got a fair deal. First check the Class of the
product and see if what you are purchasing is worth the price you are paying.
